Arsenal defender Pleguezuelo joins Mallorca on loan

Spanish side Mallorca have announced that they have signed Arsenal youngster Julio Pleguezuelo on a season-long loan.

The centre-back, a product of Barcelona’s academy, has amassed much experience of playing for Arsenal at youth level but has struggled to break into the first-team set-up, especially with Krystian Bielik ahead of him in the pecking order.

Pleguezuelo is composed on the ball and is a fine reader of the game, but his performance levels dipped a little last season and he will hope to feature prominently for his temporary side this campaign in the Segunda Division.

Pleguezuelo becomes the latest Arsenal player to be sent out on loan, with Ryan Huddart, Dan Crowley and Jon Toral also spending time elsewhere.

With Pleguezuelo loaned out and Tafari Moore and Stefan O’Connor also likely to leave on a temporary basis, Arsenal are set to field an inexperienced defence at U23 level this campaign.
