Arsenal have submitted their updated squad list for the knockout stages of the Europa League, with Konstantinos Mavropanos and Cohen Bramall being left out.

The Gunners have added January arrival Denis Suarez to their squad and, as a consequence, had to leave a non-homegrown player out, with Mavropanos the individual to make way. Bramall, meanwhile, was also left out of Arsenal’s squad for the group stages.

Uefa rules state that teams should name eight homegrown senior players in their squad, but the departure of Emiliano Martinez to Reading on loan means that Arsenal only named seven. Therefore, they had to name a reduced senior squad list of 24 players.

Mavropanos isn’t eligible for the B-List, for under-21 players, as to be included on that list players have to have been at the club for two whole years.

Arsenal’s seven homegrown players are: Hector Bellerin, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Iwobi, Deyan Iliev, Rob Holding, Danny Welbeck and Carl Jenkinson.

Ainsley Matland-Niles is on the B-list due to still being under 21 at the start of the season, while Matteo Guendouzi is on the senior list as he only joined the club last year.

With regards to young professionals, Jordan McEneff is also not included due to the length of time he has been at the club.

Arsenal’s Europa League squad:

Goalkeepers: Petr Cech, Bernd Leno, Deyan Iliev, Arthur Okonkwo*

Defenders: Hector Bellerin, Sokratis, Laurent Koscielny, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Rob Holding, Nacho Monreal, Shkodran Mustafi, Carl Jenkinson, Sead Kolasinac, Daniel Ballard*, Tolaji Bola*, Zech Medley*, Joseph Olowu*, Tobi Omole*, Jordi Osei-Tutu*, Julio Pleguezuelo*, Dominic Thompson*

Midfielders: Mohamed Elneny, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Lucas Torreira, Ainsley Maitland-Niles*, Alex Iwobi, Denis Suarez, Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka, Robbie Burton*, Charlie Gilmour*, Ben Sheaf*, Nathan Tormey*, Gedion Zelalem*, Harry Clarke*, Trae Coyle*, Joe Willock*

  1. Did we have to leave players like Bellerin and Holding on the list? Seeing as they won’t be playing again this season, wouldn’t it have made more sense to drop one of them and replace him with Bramall?

    1. Has Bramall has not been at the club 2 years? same as mavropanos, hence would have needed to go on the a list which is already full?

Shame cos I think mavropanos is our best centre back

  2. It is not as illogical as it may seem.
Dinos is highly rated at the club, and he is likely to play PL games.
But assuming Sokratis, Koscielny and Mustafi is fit, plus Lichtsteiner and Monreal are capable to play in the flank of a back 3 there is no need to have a 6th CB (not to mention Pleggy played some encouraging games recently).
Since beside the B-list and the 7 HG players there is 17 places left for seniors. The “supply” is 2 GK, 7 Defenders, 7 Midfielders and 2 ST, it makes perfect sense to exclude one CB, especially as (based on Arsenal’s recent games) we need more CMs (3) than CBs (2).
Still I hope we’ll be seeing Mavropanos several times this season.
