Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem has suffered another minor setback in his quest to return to full fitness.

Zelalem has endured much misfortune on the fitness front since suffering a serious knee injury while representing the USA at the U20 World Cup in May 2017.

The 21-year-old returned to training with Arsenal this summer and was an unused substitute in the Checkatrade Trophy victory over Coventry City earlier this month.

However, Zelalem hasn’t featured in subsequent matchday squads for the U23s, and he confirmed on social media that he has endured another setback.

Zelalem, once seen as one of Arsenal’s standout prospects, is out of contract at the end of this season. He has made four competitive appearances for the Gunners’ first-team, the most recent of which came nearly two years ago, while he has had loan spells with Rangers and VVV-Venlo.
