Brentford next in Smith Rowe’s sights after encouraging debut cameo

After much anticipation, Emile Smith Rowe finally made his competitive debut for the Arsenal first-team last night and the Hale End graduate achieved a significant feat in doing so as he became the first player to represent the club who was born in 2000 or later.

Smith Rowe slotted in neatly on the left flank as he played some precise passes and embarked upon one impressive burst forwards, while he also made an important contribution defensively.

It is unlikely to be too long until Smith Rowe gets his next taste of senior football, with Arsenal in action against Brentford next week in the Carabao Cup.

There is a possibility that Smith Rowe could start in that game and it will be intriguing to see how the 18-year-old fares if he is involved from the outset.

Smith Rowe is likely to be left out of the U23 squad for tonight’s game against Liverpool, but Eddie Nketiah, who was on the bench against Vorskla but remained unused throughout, could feature.

Nketiah will be looking to get some minutes on the pitch against Brentford, with Joe Willock and Julio Pleguezuelo also in contention to feature in that game.
