Arsenal midfielder Marcus McGuane set to join Barcelona B

Arsenal midfielder Marcus McGuane is set to join Barcelona’s B side in a permanent move before the transfer window closes this week.

The Hale End product, who turns 19 on Friday, is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season and has been linked with several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United and Juventus.

McGuane made his first-team debut for Arsenal earlier this campaign when he featured against BATE Borisov in the Europa League and he was also brought on against Red Star Belgrade, but his chances have been limited, largely due to the development of Josh Dasilva and Joe Willock.

An England U19 international, McGuane is very effective at winning possession and playing short, snappy passes to his team-mates, meaning that he should fit in well at Barcelona.

Two other players could depart Arsenal on a temporary basis this week, with striker Chuba Akpom linked with Sint-Truidense, while defender Julio Pleguezuelo could return to Spain with Gimanstic de Tarragona.

  1. Too bad, Chuba has not been able to hold on to a place in the Arsenal first team since being promoted. Hope he succeeds as a professional player, though. Like his demeanour.

  2. For all the #wengerout reasons, letting Marcys leave should be one of them. This is an absolute travesty. This will come back to haunt Arsenal one day.

  3. Shame about Marcus McGuane, but when he continually refused to sign a new contract then I guess that the writing was on the wall.
If he’d signed I’m sure he would have played in most of our League and UEFA Cup ties this season.
Joe Willock and Josh Dasilva are signed up so it makes sense to play them and develop players who see their futures at Arsenal.

    1. He could be regular player for Barcelona B in Segunda division. DaSilva barely played for Arsenal first team, Sheaf joined league 2, Nketiah scored few goals and was benched after that… It seems to me that Marcus made the best choice for his career, he is not Barcelona quality but playing for B team will give him experience to make a good professional career.

At the moment we have no idea what to do with our young players. There is enough talent there but no clear plan for the boys, and we could lose more than important youngsters than Marcus.
You guys talk about Leage cup andUefa games but event there boys didn’t get adequate chances.

      1. Arsene Wenger has a bench full of youngsters at Nottingham Forest and got dogs abuse when we got knocked out.
You have to balance bringing youngsters through against success and winning trophies.

      2. Barca B team isn’t as adventurous with young players as you would expect.
Mcguane may well get less plying time than he would have by going out on loan in Div 1 or 2, although he’ll get much better weather out there.

  4. It is a shame that he see his future away from Arsenal,, but frankly I don’t think that Barcelona B is the right choice. IMHO he does not have the quality to replace Busquet and that is his target if he wants a first team role at Barcelona.
