Arsenal include Gnabry in Champions League squad

Arsenal have today submitted their squad for the group stages of this season’s Champions League, with 17 year old German Serge Gnabry the only player from outside the first-team squad to be named on the A-List.

All remaining first-team squad members have been named, including Andrey Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh, who were strongly linked with moves away from the club, especially with the transfer window still open in some countries. The B-List is yet to be formally announced, but it is expected that Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin and Emmanuel Frimpong will all be included, as well as the remaining young professionals eligible for that list. Craig Eastmond has seemingly been left out as, having already turned 21, he cannot be named on the B-List.

  1. he is included on the a-list because he does not have a homegrown status yet, right? unlike the others who are under 21

  2. The only one i hope to god does not see any gametime is S Squillaci!!! other than that looks very promising………….

  3. I am waiting for Gnabry to be named as a sub … I had a dream before the start of the season where we were winning 3.0 at half-time (pessimists would say that’s how I knew it was a dream, but it was a very vivid dream), so at the start of the second half Gnabry came on, and he ran the game. In the dream he replaced Cazorla so you can see the impact he had? He scored once from the penalty spot, a belter from open play, and had an assist for the final goal. Arsenal 6 – whoever 0. You read it here first folks!

  4. I bet eastmond is gutted. he has only been on the official website today stating how he wants to impress wenger. well he has a tough job on his hands now. dont get me wrong i would rather see gnabry but i would also rather eastmond be in than squillaci. There will be very few players left out of the b-list so eastmond will feel pretty down.

    1. miquel will be on the b-list! i dont think people are getting this?

i am certain that the following players will not be in the b-list
      eastmond
      eisfeld
      toral
      bellerin
      olsson
      iliev

eastmond because he should now be on the a-list but gnabry has been preferred. the rest like gnabry do not qualify for the b-list as they have not done their 2 years. hence those 5 will be amongst the mainstay of the next gen series.

      1. thats what i said jeorge!

do you have any of the revised squad numbers from 32 upwards? i know martinez and gnabry (35 & 47) but thats it.

    1. squillaci will probably be de-listed in january like wenger did with almunia, so that he could make room for henry, last season

    2. What’s so unbelievable about it? We bought him, he’s our player, he has a contract, and he wants to stay. On paper he was a strong buy; he was the proven, experienced, winner, that fans were asking for. But shit happens, not every signing works out brilliantly, and spending big money guarantees nothing. Suck it up fella.

    1. eastmond
      eisfeld
      toral
      bellerin
      olsson
      iliev
      gnabry

these were the options (from those ineligible for the b-list) for the last place in the a-list, i reckon wenger had a straight choice to make gnabry or eisfeld or eastmond. fair play to gnabry as the youngest and least experienced on the list for getting the nod.

      hows that milo?

  5. I agree, it is tough on Eastmond, but from the list above Olsson might have been close to Eisfeld too. I think Eisfeld probably needs a bit more time and fill out a bit. His positional play and technique will see him come through , but for now, Gnabry looks more physically up for it, should he be required?

  6. Im sure the gunners will give it their best im behind them 100 percent! Cant wait to see podolski giroud corzorla in championsleague action! Come on gunners do us proud!

  7. I think Eisfield is a better option than Gnabry. He was fantastic on preseason and could be a great asset coming off the bench. Gnabry is a great great risk..

  8. From the regulations I read in an arseblog piece on the possible CL squad – Ebecilio & Angha now qualify for B List but Martinez doesn’t due to his loan to Oxford United, right Jeorge?

Also I see they didn’t have Afobe on the Arsenal website list but Ryo is, both season long loans but is this just an oversight?

  9. Hi Jeorge, you’ve listed Silva & Gallindo in the youth Premier league squad – did they get permits or is it just where they would be if they did? Great blog btw.

    1. England lost to Germany 3-1, with Powell scoring. Sadly, England youth teams never beat Germany these days. Couldn’t watch the whole game. How did chuba do?

  10. I was busy and only caught glimpses, looked like he had a couple of okay touches but not enough possession or time to have an effect. Then again I might have missed something as I was not focused and the raft of substitutions started breaking the flow of the game.

  11. Gnarby being selected is great for him personally, but does make you wonder.
Is this another scoop for Steve Rowley, Anyone he contributes to bring in gets promoted to senior squad where as anyone bought in by Bobby Harbour is overlooked.
Maybe its not the curse of the academy after all, maybe its all related to who brings you into the club. The boss obviously values the opinion of one (Steve Rowley) over the other (Bobby Harbour).
Did laugh when stories came out that Steve Rowley was appraoched by other clubs to scout for them and then he surprisingly got a new deal to keep him. Self publicists maybe. The plot thickens. Will be interesting to see how the non-imported boys get on in their development.
