Arsenal sweating on Gnabry involvement for CSKA Moscow tie

With just over 30 hours to go before they take on CSKA Moscow in the Quarter-Finals of the NextGen Series at Emirates Stadium, Terry Burton’s Arsenal side are still uncertain as to whether one of their star assets will be available for action, with dynamic winger Serge Gnabry currently with the Germany U18 side.

Gnabry, who missed last week’s U21 victory over Manchester United due to his international commitments, scored twice as his country dispatched of their France counterparts on Friday and ordinarily would have been expected back in North London today to prepare for the fixture against CSKA Moscow, but Germany have another friendly fixture against the Netherlands scheduled for Tuesday in which they want the 17 year old to feature.

Gnabry has been a prominent figure in Arsenal’s run to the last eight of the NextGen Series, featuring in all but one of the games thus far. He is yet to score in the competition, but provides a vital part of the Gunners’ attacking contingent and would be a major loss if he is rendered unavailable. Burton will, however, be able to call upon striker Chuba Akpom, who has recovered from injury, and midfielder Kristoffer Olsson, who played for Sweden U19s last week. Swiss defender Martin Angha should also return and is expected to operate at left-back, with Elton Monteiro and Sead Hajrovic filling the centre-back positions.

Jon Toral and Reice Charles-Cook are injured whilst Anthony Jeffrey, who featured prominently in the group stages, is on loan at Stevenage. For the NextGen Series this season, players must be born on or after January 1st 1994, although three overage players born on or after January 1st 1993 are permitted. In this case, the three overage players are likely to be Nico Yennaris, who scored the winner against Inter Milan in the last round and will captain the side, Thomas Eisfeld and Hajrovic.

    1. Wynter is eligible as overaged player but not likely to be involved when Eisfeld is back from injury.

  1. your allowed two over age players on the pitch, three if one of them is the goalkeeper , cant be over 21 though…

    1. No, it’s three and there’s no such clause (“if one of them is the goalkeeper”). They had to been born january 1st 1993 or after. Our overaged players have been Nico Yennaris (5 apps), Sead Hajrovic (7 apps), Tomas Eisfeld (3 apps + 1 sub), Samir Bihmoutine (1 app + 2 subs not used), Nigel Neita (1 app) and Jordan Wynter (1 sub).

      1. If you play three over age players at once , meaning altogether, one has to be in goal, you are only allowed to over age players on the pitch at one time.

      2. You making your own rules outsider, there’s no such rule in NextGen and you can see it by looking our line-ups in this competition, in both Olympiacos games there were Hajrovic, Eisfeld and Yennaris, in Marseille away there was Hajrovic, Yennaris and Neita, Bilbao home there was Hajrovic, Eisfeld and Bihmoutine.

  2. Probable XI tonight: Iliev; Bellerin, Hajrovic, Monteiro, Angha; Yennaris, Hayden; Eisfeld, Olsson, Gnabry; Akpom. subs: Vickers, Ormonde-Ottewill, Mugabo, Ebecilio, Jebb, Ansah, Lipman. There’s Eisfeld and Ebecilio back from injury, but i still think Hayden will get ahead of Ebecilio, has been so good lately, hard working, no nonsense, never give up! Ebecilio still not 100 %, but we’ll see it in the evening.

  3. very easy match for arsenal tonight 1 nil and should have been more.eisfield was great even so he was so long out with injury,
angha is the ronaldo of the full back….how many step over can he make in one match
