Loan report- Roberts misses crucial penalty as Frimpong heads to Fulham

Benik Afobe came on for the final 16 minutes as Bolton faced Everton in the FA Cup, but the striker was powerless to prevent his loan side from exiting the competition following a late winner from Johnny Heitinga. Afobe spurned a chance from close range to salvage an equaliser at the death.

In Scotland, Philip Roberts suffered heartbreak as he missed the decisive penalty as Inverness exited the Scottish League Cup following a tense shoot-out against Hearts. The game ended 1-1 after extra-time, with Roberts having entered the fray as a substitute in the 89th minute. In the shoot-out, Hearts were leading 5-4 before Roberts hit his penalty over the crossbar to send Hearts through to the Final.

Roberts has scored just once for Inverness in 19 appearances.

Johan Djourou played the whole game and made a goal-line clearance as Hannover beat Wolfsburg 2-1 in the Bundesliga, whilst, in Spain, Ju-Young Park came on midway through the second half and picked up a yellow card as Celta Vigo drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad. Joel Campbell started but was substituted in the second half after picking up a yellow card as Real Betis lost to Rayo Vallecano.

Ryo wasn’t involved for Wigan because of injury, whilst Marouane Chamakh was not in action because West Ham exited the FA Cup in the last round.

Samuel Galindo didn’t feature as Lugo beat Las Palmas, whilst Denilson wasn’t part of the Sao Paulo squad that took on Atletico Sorocaba. Wellington, likewise, didn’t make the Ponferradina squad this weekend.

Emmanuel Frimpong, meanwhile, has joined Fulham on loan for the remainder of the season but wasn’t signed in time to feature against Manchester United yesterday. After he failed to impress at Charlton, it is likely that this could be the midfielder’s final chance to prove that is capable of making a breakthrough at Arsenal.

  1. Good luck to Frimpong. if he improves his passing he can make it here. He is a better tackler than Coquelin. He just needs to be calm in possession and improve his distribution and we would have our own home made Gattuso.

    1. I don’t know. Two bad knee injuries have definitely robbed him of a yard of pace. I just don’t know whether his all round game can make up for that.
