Intriguing Summer in prospect with crucial decisions to be made on reinforcements and promotions

The next 99 days should prove to be very interesting indeed.

By then, the Summer transfer window will be officially closed and we will have a much clearer indication as to the make-up of Arsenal’s 2011/12 squad. As things stand, there are considerably more questions than answers but, given that the season is not formally over yet and speculation is rife regarding possible incomings and outgoings, this Summer is likely to be very eventful.

It already seems clear that there will be several departures, with Denilson and Nicklas Bendtner, who were both signed by the club as teenagers, reportedly expressing their desire to leave, and question marks remaining over the futures of Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and, inevitably, Cesc Fabregas. As far as possible signings are concerned, Finnish defender Carl Jenkinson looks set to be the first acquisition and, whilst Arsene Wenger is a somewhat unpredictable figure in the transfer market to say the least, his recent comments suggest that he is aware that the team needs strengthening in key areas and, whilst he may not be willing to spend £50 million on a player, he will seek to improve the quality of the squad.

What will be especially intriguing is how the re-adjustment of the first-team squad marries in with the futures of the glut of young professionals currently on the club’s books, particularly the returning loanees. Some, such as Kyle Bartley and Henri Lansbury, appear ready to challenge for a place in the squad, whilst others, such as Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Craig Eastmond, did not have the most fruitful loan spells and may be sent out again to gain further experience.

Some will depart, with the club declining to offer an extended contract to Roarie Deacon, who had a trial with Sunderland, whilst Oguzhan Ozyakup is still yet to agree a new deal. Mark Randall is likely to join them in departing, whilst the same could be said of Gavin Hoyte, although given that he is currently recovering from a serious injury, he may be granted an extended stay.

Ryo Miyaichi and Wellington will join up with the club for pre-season and the former will no doubt be used prominently in marketing campaigns for the club’s Asian Tour, whilst also hoping to win a work permit which would enable him to play in England.

Then there are the many young professionals set to embark on loan spells next season. Chuks Aneke, Emmanuel Frimpong, Conor Henderson, Luke Freeman and Ignasi Miquel fall into this category and are likely to be joined by several others, whilst Benik Afobe could extend his fruitful spell with Huddersfield Town, especially if they succeed in reaching the nPower Championship via the play-offs.

Further down the system, George Brislen-Hall has been released, whilst Jernade Meade has signed a one year professional contract. The club must decide which of the current first-years will also turn professional, with Philip Roberts set to do so automatically given he was signed from Norwich City, whilst Josh Rees and Alban Bunjaku appear the most obvious of the other candidates.

A new batch of scholars will also make their first steps onto the lush pitches of London Colney, with Anthony Jeffrey a particularly interesting talent, whilst the likes of Jon Toral and Kristoffer Olsson will be looking to impress during their first seasons in North London. Jack Jebb, meanwhile, who will still technically be a schoolboy next season, has asked the club if he can go full time in order to focus on his football and enhance his development.

With so many players at the club’s disposal, and several whom require important decisions regarding their immediate future, this Summer promises to be busier than most.

  1. So what do you think will be the reserves team starting 11 if all them players go out on loan?

    ————————-Martinez/McDermott
    Wynter/Angha—Boateng(C)—Hajrovic/Monteiro–Meade/Bihmoutine
    ——————-Yennaris/Edge—Ebecilio/Webb/
    Rees/——————Bunjaku/Toral———————-Monakana/Neita
    ——————————Roberts/Ansah

Thats if Aneke, Henderson, Frimpong, Murphy, Freeman, Miquel, Shea, Hotye (if still here) etc all go out on loan. All the players who went out on loan this season go back out on loan as well.

  2. Chuks Aneke, Emmanuel Frimpong, Conor Henderson, Luke Freeman and Ignasi Miquel will all go on loan. It will be interesting next season because all of them have the right attitude so I think they will get plenty of playing time at their clubs. Benik Afobe of course is the one we have the biggest expectationsfor next season. He has to show a lot of improvement and around 15 goals in the Championship if he starts playing there from the beginning of the season. Jack Jebb,Chuba Akpom,Bunjaku,Toral,Serge Gnabry and Anthony Jeffrey are the ones that should perform really well next season at youth level.

  3. I think you can add Rhys Murhpy and James Shea to the list of players who will go out on loan next season as well. The reserve team going to be very different even more younger. Who will be captain Boateng, Angha, Yennaris? I can see Bunjaku being in the reserves a lot next season.

Aneke – league one team on loan
    Frimpong- championship team on loan
Freeman – league one team on loan
    Henderson- championship team on loan
Shea – league one team on loan first choice
Miquel – championship team on loan
Murphy – league one team on loan
    Watt- championship team on loan
JET – championship team on loan
Eastmond – championship team on loan
Lansbury – maybe a prem on loan
Bartley – can to rangers it seems?
Vito – a prem club on loan?
Sunu – to France on loan
    Coquelin – first team?
    Pedro – first team?
    Galindo – SPain on loan
    Wellington – spain on loan
    Ryo – Holland on loan?
    Gibbs – a prem team

  4. The only young players I want to see in around first team squad are lansbury, Francis coquelin, Kyle Bartley & Ryo M.. The rest can go on loan or play reserve football,.. Plus four experience footballers..2def,1mid,1striker..
Players to say bye to r denilson, rosicky, squilachi (spellin),almnunia, clichy,

    1. Lacina Traore was sold by Cluj in January to some unknown Russian team. He looks like a beast from youtube videos but why does he go there if he is as good as we think he is ?
Maybe he is not all that after all the hype.

      1. It’s call money. They offer both regular playing time and huge amount of money.

  5. Read the red faced has signed a new goalie. Although young,he is more experienced than the rookie gk Wenger r used in the last two seasons. The gk is a very important player. We all know what a reliable gk could have done to the points tally except Wenger.
I just hope the FM doesn’t go and get more kids into the senior teamLet this season open his eyes of his best ever squad. If not,the days when the gunners can compete for the trophies will be numbered and with it participation in the cl.
It will indeed be very sa d for third richest club in the world.

  6. I would also like to see Botelho given a chance or if not a loan spell in England although he has been on loan now for what 4 seasons? From what i have seen of him on Live streams he looks as good a left back as Gibbs, Cruise or Traore a better winger than both of them and on a par with Ryo. He is quite tall and with a bit of bulking up could be a useful versatile addittion to the 1st team squad.

Speaking of Cruise what do you think the future holds for him and Murphy? they are 2 of the older reserve players not yet to have made a real impact. I recall Wenger bigging up Cruise when we played Olympiakos but nothing since

JB – I know you are mainly interested in Youth, but have you any idea if its true that we are interested in Scott Parker and Joey Barton, surely this would mean Song and Denilson leaving or perhaps Song reverting to CB or AM? His laid back approach is part of our Midfield problem IMO together with our full backs lack of ability to defend in the wide areas, thus preventing the high balls into the box and the ensuing panic that arises.

    .

    1. Parker is just a rumour at the moment and I can’t see us signing Barton. Denilson looks almost certain to leave, but I think Wilshere will continue to play in a deeper midfield position for much of next season alongside Song. Diaby can also play there, although he is more effective in an advanced role.

      1. Fagan is a striker, right? Do you rate him over the likes of Roberts and Ansah?
