Premier Reserve League fixtures announced- Arsenal begin season away to Bolton

Arsenal Reserves will commence their season in the newly-revamped Barclays Premier Reserve League with a trip to face Bolton Wanderers.

Following the decisions of Fulham, Birmingham City, Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur to pull out of the Reserve League South, the Premier League has decided to undertake a reinvigoration of Reserve football which will see the Northern section split into two groups.

GROUP A

Group A consists of the remaining Reserve League South teams:

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers

GROUP B

Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic

GROUP C

Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Everton, Liverpool, Sunderland.

The new format will see each side play 20 fixtures in total. The Group A teams will play eachother twice, once each home and away. The remaining ten fixtures will be against the teams from Groups B and C. Arsenal will play each side in Groups B and C once, either home or away.

The two Group winners from Groups B and C will face eachother in an end-of-season play-off, with the winners facing the Group A winners for the right to be crowned Reserve League Champions.

Arsenal’s fixture list is as follows:

As you can see, the home games are split between Barnet’s Underhill Stadium and the club’s training ground of London Colney. Six fixtures will take place at London Colney, whilst four will be played at Underhill. The games at London Colney will kick off at 1pm and will not be accessible to the general public. In addition, the fixtures away to Chelsea and West Ham United will be played at their respective training grounds.

Neil Banfield’s side will, however, relish the opportunity to play at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park, although the trips to face Manchester United and Manchester City will take place in the less glamorous surroundings of Hyde FC and Altrincham FC respectively.

The fixtures for the new Premier Academy League season will be announced shortly.

  1. I thought that we had pulled out of the Reserve league as well and at that level the club was going to restructure its programme.

  2. George Grahame caused a bit of a stir at Leeds when he played the reserve games in the afternoon for his own convenience. They weren’t behind closed doors though.

  3. Some truly nice and utilitarian info on this website , too I think the style and design holds wonderful features. – Always do right this will gratify some and astonish the rest. Mark Twain 1835 1910
