Arsenal have first option on Galindo but coaching staff tell Bolivian to work on his strength and speed

Despite initial reports claiming that Arsenal had signed Bolivian Samuel Galindo, the Bolivian is not officially an Arsenal player, but his father signed an intent to purchase contract which means that Arsenal will have first option on signing him in the Summer and, in the interim, Arsenal will pay for him to train in England and will set him up with an English tutor, in the same manner as Brazilian loanee Pedro Botelho. In the summer, Galindo is likely to join either Salamanca or Royal Zaragoza on loan.

Galindo recently completed a three day trial period at London Colney. The initial day consisted of physical trials testing his speed and stamina, the second day focused on technique, control and shooting, which he impressed at and the final day saw him join the first-team for a training match. Arsene Wenger was pleased with what he saw, but coaching staff told Galindo to work on his muscle mass and speed.

Arsenal expressed concern when allegations suggesting that Galindo was 20 years old, rather than 17, began to emerge. However, having put him through proper tests, it has now been proved that he is in fact 17.

He had some offers from teams in his homeland but was not interested as he felt that pursuing one of these options would hinder his chances of moving to Europe.

Galindo will return to England today and will begin training until May, when he can apply for his Spanish visa.Galindo played for Bolivia in their recent 5-0 defeat to Mexico.

  1. SORRY BUT I AM JUST GETTING FED UP OF ARSENAL BUYING YOUNG CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS? WE HAVE GOT MILLIONS OF THEM. WE NEED BETTER FULL BACKS, WINGERS AND SOME CENTRE HALVES.

APART FROM AYLING, MIGUEL, HAJROVIC, BARTLEY, NORDVTEIT WE DONT HAVE ANY QUALITY CENTRE BACKS COMING THOUGH

    1. So apart from those 4 players we don’t have any good CBs coming through.

You sound like Arry Redknapp- “If we didn’t drop any points this year, we’d be above Arsenal”. No shit Sherlock… and if I won the lottery, I’d be a millionaire and if I didn’t spend that £10 yesterday, I’d have £10 more in my pocket today.

    2. john – youve just named 5 centre backs – for 2 positions in the team – all of a fairly similar age – how many effing centre backs do we need in your opinion?

    3. he was used by Wenger as a winger so I think he can more positions but I agree with you we need wingers!!!

  2. Apart from 5 CB’s we dont have any coming through? How many cbs CB’s do you expect to come through 15? lol I to think its abit crazy getting so many CM’s but quite alot of these CM’s can play on the wing natural winger are not longer a neccessity as Nasri (CM), Rosicky (CM) and Arshavin (CF) have all shown

  3. JohnV makes a good point. I think we sign young CMs because these tend to be the most intelligent players, and we can then adapt them to different positions across the midfield and at the back depending on physical ability. The more pace they have, the wider they can play in the future.

  4. 4-3-3 means five players interchanging with each other in the offensive third. Five is an awful lot, even if you say that one of those is the Van Persie/Bendtner/Chamakah big man role. So, say Four. And ok, Cesc has one sewn up, so three. But sometimes Cesc is injured. So back to four positions – You’ll need them at least 8 top class players and then younger ones coming through. He’s only 17. Not likely to be involved in the mix for 3-4 years, maybe longer if he doesn’t develop quickly on loan. Finally, don’t centerbacks come into their own at a much older age, like 27? So worrying about youthful gaps among the youthful centerbacks is a bit paranoid. Besides, we can always buy one, you know, like Chelsea and Man City and Manure do. It’s not unheard of for AW to spend money. The Verminator for instance.

  5. sorry but arsenal.com had official quotes from arsene wenger saying we had signed the player. so…erm….he’s an arsenal player lol.

  6. Take all the talent you can get, as long as its not at the expense of experienced players that can hit the 1st team straight away

  7. Galindo looks very very good and clever with the ball. Reminds me very much of Diaby but the fact is he is only 17 years old and is a captain of Bolivia U21. Of what I’ve seen of him he looks class.

  8. As tall and skinny this kid is, I still have trouble believing how well he’s posed with the ball. If I hadn’t seen him play, it would be very easy to write him off just by looking at him. This kid is 100% pure class with his touch and has a very mature pass for his age. Extremely creative.
