54. Matt Macey

Goalkeeper

A goalkeeper who joined Arsenal from Bristol Rovers in 2013, Matt experienced a hugely eventful 2014/15 campaign as he was named on the bench for the Gunners’ first-team, featured heavily for the U21s and had a short loan spell with Accrington Stanley.

A tall goalkeeper who is capable of making excellent stops from close range, Matt featured regularly for Arsenal U21s during his first season at the club and he built upon that experience last year as he made 13 appearances for Steve Gatting’s team.

He was also involved with the Arsenal first-team squad on several occasions, being named on the bench for Premier League fixtures against West Bromwich Albion at Liverpool, having previously travelled with the team on their pre-season trip to Austria.

Later in the campaign Matt had a short, unsuccessful loan spell with League Two side Accrington Stanley where he conceded several goals, but he will be hopeful of faring better if he heads out on temporary transfer again this campaign.

Matt is set to start the season as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper at U21 level ahead of Deyan Iliev and Ryan Huddart.
