32. Chuba Akpom

Striker

Skilful and powerful attacker Chuba enjoyed a highly eventful 2013/14 campaign during which he made his first forays into the professional game.

Having established himself as the first-choice striker for the U21s whilst in the first year of his scholarship, Chuba was hugely impressive during the first-team’s pre-season tour of Asia in summer 2013. He went on to make his competitive debuts in both the Premier League, away to Sunderland, and the Capital One Cup, away to West Bromwich Albion.

The England U19 international also had two separate loan spells in League One, with Brentford and then Coventry City, playing ten games in total. He still found time to play and score regularly for Arsenal’s various youth sides, with the youngster scoring six goals in nine starts for the U21s.

Chuba also chalked up impressive tallies in the UEFA Youth League (four goals in six appearances) and the FA Youth Cup (five goals in six appearances) as he further underlined his impressive credentials.

This season he will be hopeful of further first-team action at Arsenal, but may also head out on loan again as the campaign progresses, possibly to a Championship club on this occasion.

  1. I have seen this boy play many times. He has the physical attributes of a striker, tall, quick and full of tricks. Gives defenders a hard time on the pitch and also scores good goals. I’m sure he’ll be adapt well in the U18’s come September.

That’s quite right on Chuba Akpom. To take an analogy from another sport, he is a bit like how James Harden was from quite early on: already at a very young age he has that “old man” game – adept and a lot of those little tricks that help you steal a step or two.
