– Ainsley Maitland-Niles (On loan at Southampton, until May 2023)

Born: August 29th 1997

Position: Right-back/central midfield

International: England

Arsenal first-team appearances: 132 (3 goals)

A versatile player, Maitland-Niles joined Arsenal at the age of six and produced some excellent performances at youth level.

After spending time on loan at Ipswich Town in the 2015/16 season, Maitland-Niles, who can play as a winger, in central midfield or in either full-back berth, was promoted to the Arsenal first-team squad in 2017.

Maitland-Niles helped Arsenal to win the FA Cup in 2020 and has represented England at senior level. He had a spell on loan at West Bromwich Albion in 2021 and then spent time at Roma in 2022.

  1. I’ve heard that Maitland-Niles is very promising and highly rated among the academy coaches. Could you tell me more about him as a player?

Oh, and btw, his name is f***ing awesome!

      1. Very funny and, yeah, cool name (does it beat Sanchez Watt though?)

Brilliant season he’s had. Glad there’s little hype about him yet, but if he keeps progressing as he is there soon will be.

Think he probably had best year of any youth players in 13-14, including another I’ve big hopes for, Chuba Akpom. Roll on 14-15!

Well done to his ma, if I understood correctly!

      2. What an awful mother this guy has. Publicity stunt from the above poster.

  2. Jeorge are there any other players to look out for in the under 16’s apart from Zelalem who has played u21’s & Maitland-Niles who played nextgen??
