Report – Ethan Nwaneri scores and assists as Arsenal U18s beat Norwich

U18 Premier League

Norwich City 1 (Campbell 4) Arsenal 2 (Nwaneri 16, Ismail Oulad M’Hand 24)

After making his first-team debut before the international break, Ethan Nwaneri was back involved with Arsenal U18s today and the hugely talented youngster provided another indication of his quality as he scored and provided an assist in a win away to Norwich City.

There was another start for schoolboy Myles Lewis-Skelly, while Osman Kamara was deployed on the left wing with Nwaneri up front. Defender Josh Robinson, who played for the U21s recently, started at right-back.

Mathaeus Roberts was named on the bench after recovering from an injury that saw him miss the start to the season.

Arsenal got off to a disappointing start, with Charlie Campbell opening the scoring after just four minutes.

However, the young Gunners managed to pull level in the 16th minute as Nwaneri scored after he was found by Kamara.

Nwaneri then turned provider for Ismail Oulad M’Hand, who scored what proved to be the decisive goal of the game.

Roberts made his return as he entered the fray in place of Nwaneri in the 62nd minute, with Kaleel Green and Kamarni Ryan also later coming on.

Arsenal managed to hold on for their second victory of the season.

It will be interesting to see how Arsenal manage Nwaneri’s development but he certainly seems to have mastered playing U18s football.

  1. Not sure, we should give a 15 year old his 1st team debut, then play him in the u18s, next match. Not really sure what message that is sending out to anyone?

That said the first team squad was spot on and the u21s did ok too. Im really looking forward to a good rotation for the Europa League on Thursday. I expect to see Turner, Cedric (if fit?)Holding,Tomiyasu,Tierney, Sambi, Smith, Vieira, Marquinhos, Nketiah and Nelson
along with a first team bench.
Ramsdale, Hein, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zincheko, Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard, Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

We need to get to 10 points asap

    1. Just read what Per said about Nwaneri’s debut and digest it. Try to enjoy it.

With regards to your Europa team, expect to see one of Saliba/Gabriel, and Xhaka starting. Also, expect to see Nwaneri on the bench.

    2. As for Nwanneri, I think the hater are correct, Arteta just did that to get his name on the history books as the coach who gave a first team debut to the youngest ever person.

Not sure Arteta will be brave enough to make a wholesome 100% change to the side we saw today. I think we will still see at least 4 of the lads from today starting on thousand.

  2. Don’t expect Smith, he will be out until Boxing day.
But nevertheless we can field a well rotated young team against Bode.

      1. Well, that makes sense from hindsight. 🙂
Still, I think you’re right in visioning a senior midfielder. I expect Xhaka wearing the armband paired with Lokonga.
Gabriel is also probable to start, but if they are all fit I would prefer to give Soares, Tomi, Holding and Tierney starting positions.
We have the bodies to fully rotate the front 4, but I’m not sure Arteta will have the ball to do that, therefore Martinelli could start again in Thursday.
Yes, Smith, Walters, Hein and Nwanneri could all have a spot on the bench, but I’m not expected to see them play (before the 88th minute).
