Pre-season friendly

Hereford 1 (Barnett 1) Arsenal 3 (Sweet 13, Ideho 16, Edwards 68)

Arsenal U21s secured their first victory of pre-season as they won 3-1 away to Hereford tonight, with Khayon Edwards amongst the players on the scoresheet.

The Gunners named a large squad for this fixture, with Miguel Azeez and James Olayinka two of the more experienced players in the team, while Ben Cottrell again captained the side.

Zane Monlouis was back on the bench after recovering from injury but Ryan Alebiosu, who could leave the club soon, wasn’t involved. Second year scholar Tino Quamina was called upon at left-back.

There were a host of other absentees, including youngsters who missed out on the first-team’s pre-season tour such as Charlie Patino, Omari Hutchinson, Lino Sousa and Matt Smith.

There was an early shock for Arsenal as they fell behind with just 30 seconds gone, Tyrone Barnett finding the net.

Twelve minutes later Arsenal managed to equalise, with Joel Ideho sending in a cross towards the versatile James Sweet, who managed to score.

Shortly afterwards Arsenal took the lead, with Ideho going from provider to goalscorer as he scored with a header.

Arsenal were in front at half time and there were a significant amount of changes at the break, with Bradley Ibrahim and Edwards among the players entering the fray.

Hereford struck the bar but Arsenal managed to survive that scare and eventually got a third goal, with Edwards scoring following good work from Kido Taylor-Hart.

Taylor-Hart had an opportunity to add further gloss to the scoreline, but his effort was saved.

Overall, it was a positive workout for the U21s, who are back in action on Saturday when they face Dulwich Hamlet.
