Patino, Marquinhos, Hutchinson, Salah-Eddine: The Arsenal youngsters that could be involved with the first-team in pre-season

Pre-season is always an exciting time in terms of youngsters being involved with the first-team squad and there are some very talented prospects who are currently on the cusp of the senior setup.

Chief amongst them is Charlie Patino, with the midfielder having made two first-team appearances last season. This campaign he will hope for further involvement, especially given that the club will be playing in the Europa League.

New signing Marquinhos, who arrived from São Paulo, is also set to be given an opportunity to prove his worth and the winger’s performances are likely to determine whether he stays or goes on loan.

Another winger to keep an eye on is Omari Hutchinson, who received numerous first-team call-ups last season without getting onto the pitch. Hutchinson featured fleetingly in pre-season last year but now he is ready for more regular involvement.

Defender Zak Swanson is another player who was regularly named on the bench last season and he too could get some minutes in pre-season, especially given his versatility.

Goalkeeper Karl Hein is likely to at least train with the squad and he could be promoted permanently if Arthur Okonkwo goes on loan and Bernd Leno and Alex Runarsson depart.

Midfielder Jack Henry-Francis caught the eye in pre-season last year and may get another chance to prove his worth. Henry-Francis has been linked with a loan move but that may not happen immediately.

Another midfielder, Salah-Eddine, could also be called upon. The youngster possesses excellent technical ability.

Miguel Azeez may also be involved but it is possible he could be loaned out instead

There is much excitement about Marcelo Flores. The prospect, who can play as a winger or an attacking midfielder, may miss the start to pre-season due to his involvement with Mexico, but he could be called upon at some stage and it will be intriguing to see how he fares.

Left-back Lino Sousa, meanwhile, is only 17 but has been hugely impressive since joining from West Bromwich Albion in January.

The Arsenal first-team are reportedly due to start training next week, with their first friendly seeing them take on Nuremberg on July 8th.

With a host of first-team players set to be missing due to their previous international commitments, there could be opportunities for several of the aforementioned youngsters.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy is currently at the U19 European Championship with England, which could prevent him from being involved with the first-team, but much may depend on how long the Three Lions stay in the competition.
