Joel Lopez travels with Arsenal first-team to Dubai

Arsenal U23s left-back Joel Lopez has travelled with the first-team to Dubai for their training camp.

The 19-year-old has produced some impressive performances for Arsenal at youth level this season.

Lopez was a candidate to go out on loan but the fact that he has travelled with the first-team suggests that he could stay with Arsenal for the remainder of the season.

Signed from Barcelona in 2018, Lopez was an unused substitute for the Arsenal first-team against Slavia Prague in the Europa League last season.

Charlie Patino and Taylor Foran have also travelled with the squad.

It has already been confirmed that first-team players Emile Smith Rowe, Ben White, Rob Holding, Gabriel Martinelli and Bernd Leno are in Dubai.

  1. I can’t help but be a bit surprised by the transfer of Calum Chambers to Aston Villa this month but I wonder what that might mean for some of our younger centre backs Jeorge and if that deal could be viewed through a more positive prism than just another Arsenal player leaving on the cheap?

Take Omar Rekik for example, you’ve seen a lot of him Jeorge, how close is he to the senior squad and do you think he has the quality to step in even this season given his recent international experience?

    1. Rekik is quite close to the first team. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets on the bench before the end of the season if no other defenders are brought in and he doesn’t go on loan. He’s got a lot of potential and also has some international experience now, but he needs a loan really.

  2. 3 CBs are probably enough for the remaining 17 games of the season, especially as Tomi can play RCB. But for the training sessions this is a good opportunity for the academy players.
