Marcelo Flores has been called up to the Mexico senior squad for the first time for the game against Chile next week, Arsenal have revealed.
Flores has frequently impressed for Mexico at youth level, most recently being named the player of the tournament for the U20s at the Revelations Cup.
The 18-year-old midfielder is also eligible to represent Canada (who he has been called up to a provisional squad at senior level) and England, but it certainly appears that he is now leaning towards representing Mexico.
Flores’ involvement with Mexico does, however, mean that he will be absent when Arsenal U18s get their FA Youth Cup campaign underway with a trip to face Colchester United on December 10th.
So far this season Flores has been one of the standout performers for Arsenal U18s, but his absence could allow another youngster, such as Charles Sagoe Jr, to start in the Youth Cup.
