Report – Balogun scores 97th minute equaliser as Arsenal U23s stage dramatic comeback to draw with Leicester

Premier League 2

Arsenal 3 (Akinola 90, Hutchinson 90, Balogun 90) Leicester City 3 (Pennant 61, Maswanhise 73, Nelson 77)

Arsenal U23s staged an incredible comeback from three goals down to draw 3-3 against Leicester City at London Colney today to retain their place at the top of the table.

Kevin Betsy’s side were trailing by three goals in the 90th minute, but, rather remarkably, the young Gunners managed to salvage a point from a seemingly impossible position, with Tim Akinola, substitute Omari Hutchinson and Folarin Balogun all scoring, the latter finding the net in the 97th minute.

Arsenal were without the injured Omar Rekik and Ryan Alebiosu, while others such as Charlie Patino and Salah-Eddine were still missing.

Reuell Walters and Jack Henry-Francis were both given starts, while Hutchinson was available again and was named amongst the substitutes.

Subs: Ejeheri, Olayinka (for Walters, 69), Butler-Oyedeji, Ideho (for Taylor-Hart, 79), Hutchinson (for Norton-Cuffy, 61).

Following a goalless first half, Leicester took the lead in the 61st minute, with Terel Pennant opening the scoring.

Tawanda Maswanhise added a second for the Foxes, and Benjamin Nelson made it 3-0 to seemingly make sure of victory for the visitors.

Arsenal, though, has other ideas. Tim Akinola chose an excellent time to score his first goal for the club as he found the net in the 91st minute.

Three minutes later Omari Hutchinson marked his return to action by making it 3-2 and then, with 97 minutes gone, Balogun completed a scarcely believable comeback as Arsenal equalised.

To add to the drama, Arsenal ended the game with striker Mika Biereth in goal after Karl Hein suffered an injury and all three substitutes had already been used.
