Deyan Iliev returns to Arsenal after Shrewsbury Town loan

Goalkeeper Deyan Iliev has returned to Arsenal after his loan spell at Shrewsbury Town came to an end.

The 25-year-old played three times for Shrewsbury, with an injury affecting his progress.

Iliev, who has been called up by North Macedonia at senior level, previously had loan spells with Sered and Jagiellonia Bialystok.

Still technically part of Arsenal’s U23 squad, Iliev has yet to feature for the first-team, although he has been on the bench on several occasions, including for the Europa League final against Chelsea in 2019.

It is possible that Iliev, whose contract expires in June 2022, could be loaned out again before Monday’s deadline.

If he remains at Arsenal Iliev could be included in Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads owing to his homegrown status.

One comment

  1. May as well keep him as 3rd choice and loan out Runarrsson saves us a spot. We could then have iliev playing u23s and loan out the younger keepers who are the better prospects as well.
    1. Leno – All matches
    2. Ryan – Backup
    3. Iliev – u23s and 3rd choice for EL/PL
    4. Ejahari u23 back up and 1st choice u18
    5. Graczyck u23 3rd choice back up u18
    6. Mitchell 3rd choice u18

Runarsson, Okonkwo, Hein, Hillson, Smith can all get experience at various levels
