U18 Premier League
West Ham United 3 (Fevrier 12, Woods 27, Corbett 69) Arsenal 2 (Kirk 29, Taylor-Hart 61)
Arsenal U18s’ mixed start to the season continued with a 3-2 defeat to West Ham United today in an entertaining encounter at Little Heath.
The young Gunners played much of the game with ten men after right-back Levi Laing was sent off in the 25th minute.
Coach Ken Gillard was without Mazeed Ogungbo, with Brooke Norton-Cuffy coming in at left-back to make his first competitive appearance at this level.
Meanwhile, Taylor Foran started at centre-back with Zane Monlouis not involved.
First-year scholars James Lannin-Sweet and Charles Sagoe Junior received their first callups on the bench.
West Ham, who lost their first three games of the season, took the lead in the 12th minute through Jayden Fevrier.
Archie Woods then doubled the host’s advantage just two minutes after Laing’s dismissal.
Arsenal, to their credit, managed to pull a goal back shortly afterwards through Alex Kirk, who scored his first goal for the U18s.
Omari Hutchinson, who has enjoyed a fine start to the campaign, provided the assist for Kirk’s goal.
Another player who has started the season well, winger Kido Taylor-Hart, reduced the deficit further still in the second half as he managed to find the net.
Arsenal then brought on Lannin-Sweet for Hutchinson, with Luke Plange replacing Khayon Edwards up front.
Zach Awe came on for Taylor-Hart late on, with Arsenal unable to get an equaliser despite their best efforts.
Arsenal have now won two and lost two games so far this season.
