George Lewis and Folarin Balogun score as Arsenal U23s draw with Tottenham

Arsenal U23s were in action away to rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly, with recent recruit George Lewis marking the occasion by scoring his first goal for the club.

The game, played at Tottenham’s training ground, ended in a 2-2 draw.

The winger, who was previously playing in the third division in Norway, found the net with a neat finish.

Folarin Balogun also made a long-awaited return to action and, unsurprisingly, managed to score. Balogun’s future at Arsenal remains unresolved as he has yet to commit to a new contract beyond his current deal, which expires next summer.

Arsenal have seemingly taken the step of excluding him from first-team involvement, including in training sessions, until he either decides to stay or leaves. However, such an approach seems rather strange as it is unlikely to entice Balogun to remain at the club given that one of the reasons why he hasn’t signed a new deal is due to a lack of first-team opportunities.

  1. What I find a bit funny is that it seems that most of the players who refused new contracts and left for seemingly greener pastures are now scratching around the lower leagues and players that were seemingly forced out or just allowed to leave are seeing success at major clubs.
    Might just be my imagination.
