Arsenal beat Liverpool 5-4 at Wembley today to win the Community Shield after the game finished 1-1.
As usual there were a host of academy graduates in the matchday squad, with Emiliano Martinez, Hector Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah all starting, while Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson were both brought on as substitutes.
Emile Smith Rowe was also on the bench, as were U23 squad members Tyreece John-Jules and James Olayinka.
Olayinka was back at Wembley after helping Northampton Town to win the League Two play-off final at the end of last season, while for John-Jules it is the first winners’ medal of his senior career.
Interesting if we arrange any friendlies over the next week (surely we will have 1 or 2?) considering the players we will be missing (Tierney, Xhaka, Kolasinac, AMN, Nelson, Saka and Nketiah). Would be a chance for TJJ and especially midielders and left sided defenders.
Hi Jeorge! Can you confirm about these U16’s, whom i think are not with Arsenal anymore? I think they have left. Strikers Baylin Johnson and Will Lankshear, midfielders Aiden Brown and Donald Isufi, defenders Josh Robinson and Will Andiyapan, and keeper Alexei Rojas? They have been with 2004/05’s squad in recent years, but i think they have all left?
I don’t know about the others but Andiyapan plays for Tottenham now.

Hi Jeorge, a question, does Joe Willock still qualify as U21 for the forthcoming season?
Hi, yes he does.
