Report – Arsenal youngster Matt Smith joins Swindon on loan

Arsenal midfielder Matt Smith has reportedly joined Swindon Town on a season-long loan.

As reported by BBC Wiltshire Sport, Smith will link up with the League One side, whose interest in the youngster was first made apparent nearly two weeks ago.

Smith was an unused substitute for the Arsenal first-team on six occasions towards the end of the season, including for the FA Cup final win against Chelsea.

However, he has yet to make a senior appearance and this loan move could prove to be very useful for the Hale End product, who has featured prominently at U23 level.

Smith follows in the footsteps of Trae Coyle, Zech Medley and Zak Swanson, who have all been sent on loan recently.

Coyle and Medley are also in League One with Gillingham and featured in a friendly against Colchester United today.

Swanson, meanwhile, has headed to Dutch second division side Maastricht, and he was also involved in a friendly today, featuring agaisnt Westerlo.

  1. Any word on James Olyinka? Caught the eye in pre season last year and got promoted with Northampton on loan. Another loan?
