Loan report – Mavropanos emotional as Nuremberg stay up

Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos saw his loan spell at Nuremberg end in dramatic fashion last night.

Nuremberg were leading 2-0 from the first leg against Ingolstadt in their relegation/promotion play-off as they looked to preserve their status in the German second tier.

Mavropanos was an unused substitute for the second leg and watched from the bench as Ingolstadt went 3-0 up in the second leg. However, a goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half from Fabian Schleusener ensured that Nuremberg will stay up.

At the end of the game Mavropanos struggled to control his emotions and was in tears.

In total, Mavropanos made 12 appearances for Nuremberg after joining them on loan in January.

Emile Smith Rowe started and played the full game as Huddersfield Town lost 2-0 to Luton Town. Smith Rowe was deployed as an attacking midfielder.

Deyan Iliev wasn’t fit enough to feature as Jagiellonia Bialystok took on Piast Gliwice.

Mohamed Elneny could be in action tomorrow night when Besiktas take on Yeni Malatyaspor.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan wasn’t involved as Roma beat Brescia 3-0.

One comment

  1. I think his (mavropanos) injury problems are going to go against him.

Shame cos Arteta seems to be favouring a back 3 and he is quite useful with his left foot. I would certainly choose him over kolasinac.

Luiz, mustafi, sokratis, chambers, saliba, holding, mavropanos, Ballard and Clarke are all mainly right footed.

Whilst only Mari and medley are left footed.

9 right footed centre backs and only 2 left footed centre backs, and he plays kolasinac out of position, hence likes a left footed centre back

That is why there is the interest in Malang Sarr.

I think arteta will address that balance this summer

Personally I would send Luiz, mustafi, sokratis and mavropanos packing. Especially if we don’t make Europa League.
