Arsenal U23s’ faint title hopes suffered a blow as they were thrashed 3-0 by Liverpool yesterday.
The young Gunners were without the suspended Tolaji Bola and the injured Nathan Tormey, but it was Robbie Burton, who was also sidelined, who was most missed.
Joel Lopez made his first U23s appearance at left-back, while Tobi Omole also started and Trae Coyle returned from injury.
Sam Greenwood, Matthew Dennis, Ryan Alebiosu and Alex Kirk were named on the bench after impressing for the U18s, with the latter receiving his first U23 callup.
Morgan Boyes put Liverpool in the lead with a header in the 24th minute, with Dal Varesanovic making it 2-0 just before the break.
Luis Longstaff added a third for Liverpool in the second half, with Arsenal suffering their heaviest defeat of the season so far.
