U18 Premier League
Chelsea 2 (Lewis 31, Haigh 70) Arsenal 2 (Greenwood 80, Dennis 86)
Arsenal U18s took inspiration from the U23s as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 against league leaders Chelsea today.
The U23s performed a similar feat against Derby County last night with Sam Greenwood on the scoresheet in both games.
Arsenal were still without Miguel Azeez and Joel Lopez due to injuries, while Alfie Matthews was missing through suspension, with Luke Plange starting.
First-year scholar Levi Laing was named in a matchday squad for the first time this season.
Chelsea, who have again been hugely impressive at this level this season, took the lead through Marcel Lewis in the 31st minute.
Earlier in the half Arsenal had been forced into a defensive reshuffle with Alex Kirk going off injured and Dennis coming on.
There was another change early in the second half as Laing came on for his second appearance at this level when he replaced Ryan Alebiosu.
Chelsea added to their lead when substitute Joe Haigh scored shortly after coming on.
However, a fine free-kick from Greenwood gave Arsenal hope and then a deflected effort from Dennis salvaged a point.
This fightback will certainly boost Arsenal’s confidence ahead of the FA Youth Cup clash against Southampton next week.
