Report – Matthews scores and Taylor-Hart injured as Arsenal U18s beat Reading

U18 Premier League

Reading 0 Arsenal 1 (Matthews 12)

Alfie Matthews scored as Arsenal U18s beat Reading 1-0 away today to secure just their second league win of the season.

There was one change to the side that beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Cup last weekend, with Joel Lopez replacing Alex Kirk.

Arsenal took the lead in the 12th minute when the impressive Ben Cottrell found Matthews, who scored for the second game in succession.

Zane Monlouis replaced Lopez at the start of the second half, with another schoolboy, Charlie Patino, later entering the fray in place of Matthews.

Sam Greenwood, who was surprisingly named on the bench, was brought on for Cirjan.

However, Greenwood missed a penalty late on and Arsenal ended the game with ten men after Kido Taylor-Hart was stretchered off with all three substitutes having been used.
Arsenal: Graczyk; Dennis, Oyegoke, Ogungbo, Lopez (Monlouis, 46); Azeez, Cottrell; Butler-Oyedeji, Cirjan (Greenwood, 59), Taylor-Hart; Matthews (Patino, 59). Subs not used: Ejeheri, Alebiosu.
