Arsenal have confirmed that Freddie Ljungberg is stepping up to become assistant first-team coach.
Ljungberg impressed with his coaching methods in his sole season in charge of Arsenal’s U23 side, who he guided to a second place finish last season, and helped to improve players such as Joe Willock.
Steve Bould will replace Ljungberg as U23 coach.
The former Arsenal defender rejoined the club as an academy coach in 2001 and went on to lead the U18s to two league titles as well as FA Youth Cup glory before becoming part of the first-team coaching staff.
Ljungberg will have a key part to play as youngsters seek to make the transition to the first-team squad, while goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo will be tasked with helping young shot-stoppers such as Arthur Okonkwo in their quest to make the grade.
Boils will be leaving soon, should have given the job to Ryan Garry
