U17 Euros – Arsenal’s McEneff features as Republic of Ireland beat Denmark

Arsenal youngster Jordan McEneff made his first appearance at the U17 European Championship as he featured in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 victory over Denmark yesterday.

Having been an unused substitute for the defeat to Belgium, attacking midfielder McEneff entered the fray in the 67th minute against Denmark and was booked shortly afterwards.

A draw against Bosnia on Friday would be sufficient to see Ireland make it through to the semi-finals.

  1. https://polldaddy.com/js/rating/rating.jsI notice that a lot of our talented youngsters have missed out on a few ‘big’ youth team games recently to sit on the bench for the firsts and get a few minutes here and there. I wonder what is best for their development. It is hard to give young players a lot of minutes in high pressure first team matches but if these lads aren’t playing, their careers may stagnate. Compare Rob Holding to Clement Lenglet. Both players are the same age, Holding played 20 odd games for Bolton before being signed by Arsenal and has played 20 odd games for us in the last two seasons. Lenglet got 77 first team caps for Nancy and is now finishing his 2nd season playing at Sevilla in La Liga, starting most matches. It is hard for Holding to develop his game whilst sitting on the bench – to be honest it looks like his career will fizzle to mediocrity.
What is the best move for the likes of Nketiah, Willock, Nelson at such an important phase of their careers?
