England continued their impressive start to the U17 European Championship with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Italy today.
Four Arsenal youngsters were named in the starting line-up, with Vontae Daley-Campbell, Bukayo Saka, Xavier Amaechi and Tyreece John-Jules.
Italy took the lead in the 14th minute through Alessio Riccardi but England eventually managed to prevail, with Arvin Appiah scoring in the second half before Thomas Doyle scored what proved to be the winner from the spot.
Daley-Campbell made good use of his strength as the right-back made some crunching challenges, but, after receiving a yellow card, he was substituted at the break to prevent him from being dismissed.
John-Jules, meanwhile, struggled to make much of an impact up front and was also withdrawn at half-time, but Amaechi showed glimpses of his talent and came close to scoring on one occasion.
Folarin Balogun and Trae Coyle were unused substitutes, with the latter yet to feature in the tournament.
