Mavropanos set for involvement as Arsenal take on Chelsea in Carabao Cup

New signing Konstantinos Mavropanos is set to be included in the Arsenal squad for the first time as Arsene Wenger’s side visit Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea tonight in the Carabao Cup.

Mavropanos has been hugely impressive in training since joining from PAS Giannina last week and the Greek youngster appears to have quickly edged ahead of Krystian Bielik and Ben Sheaf in the pecking order.

It is anticipated that the 20-year-old will be involved in some capacity in tonight’s semi-final, first leg tie and if he features Mavropanos will then not be permitted to head out on loan as players can’t play for more than two clubs in a single season.

Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal are still injured, while Rob Holding didn’t train yesterday and Shkodran Mustafi is a doubt, meaning Arsenal’s defensive resources are thin on the ground at present, which could give Mavropanos his opportunity.

  1. Jeorge,

We seem to have an abundance of CBs now, is there a possibility the aforementioned players could return to DM as we have none at all (unless you count AMN).
