Pleguezuelo amongst 11 youngsters to train with Arsenal first-team pre-Red Star Belgrade

Arsenal held their final training session yesterday ahead of tonight’s Europa League game at home to Red Star Belgrade, with eleven youngsters in attendance.

Amongst them was Julio Pleguezuelo, with the centre-back having recently returned from his latest injury setback.

Pleguezuelo has yet to be called up to the first-team squad for a competitive fixture but will hope to be involved in some capacity tonight.

In addition goalkeepers Matt Macey, Hugo Keto and Joao Virginia trained with the squad, although Deyan Iliev missed out through injury. Macey is likely to be on the bench tonight.

Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, Eddie Nketiah, Marcus McGuane, Jordi Osei-Tutu, Ben Sheaf and Josh Dasilva all trained with the squad.

With regards to first-team players, Sead Kolasinac wasn’t involved in the session as he recovers from a hip problem, while Shkodran Mustafi, Danny Welbeck, Calum Chambers, David Ospina, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Santi Cazorla are all still sidelined.

It is anticipated that Per Mertesacker, Nacho Monreal, Laurent Koscielny, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette will be rested ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game away to Manchester City.

First-team coach Jens Lehmann trained with the squad yesterday as an outfield player.

Possible team

Nelson-Coquelin-Iwobi-Maitland Niles

Subs: Macey, Osei-Tutu, Sheaf/Pleguezuelo, Dasilva, Willock, Nketiah, Akpom.

  1. Would be encouraging to be able to give Osei-Tutu a run-out this evening, he sounds a very promising young player. Then push Nelson further forward to see how he does in a more, for him, natural position.
Looking forward to seeing Eddie again.

    1. He’s trained with the first-team a few times this season. There’s been quite a lot of rotation with the young goalkeepers

I think it I would bring the best Out of Nelson and niles. Nelson shouldn’t be playing wingback and niles seems to struggle on the left hand side. Coquelin has played left back before for the first team. Ideally I would drop Walcott for Eddie or akpom and coquelin for da silva.
