New scholar Folarin Balogun was on the scoresheet as a depleted Arsenal U23 side got their pre-season preparations underway with a 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth at London Colney today.
Attacker Balogun, who is one of the most exciting members of Arsenal’s new scholarship intake, found the net after being set up by Charlie Gilmour, but Bournemouth still managed to prevail.
Three other new scholars, striker Tyreece John-Jules, midfielder Xavier Amaechi and defender Mark McGuinness, were also in action, along with more experienced players such as Jon Toral, Tafari Moore, Vlad Dragomir, Jordi Osei-Tutu, Marcus McGuane, Joseph Olowu and Joao Virginia.
Notably, Arsenal were without Reiss Nelson, Donyell Malen, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock, who will hope to travel with the first-team on their pre-season trip to Australia.
Meanwhile, Ben Sheaf and Trae Coyle missed out through injury.
Arsenal U23s host Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday in their next friendly.
