Malen scores again as Arsenal U18s beat Southampton

Donyell Malen was on the scoresheet again as Arsenal U18s beat their Southampton counterparts 1-0 away today to extend their winning sequence to three games.

Coach Kwame Ampadu made four alterations to the side that prevailed past Reading last weekend, with Alex Crean, Charlie Gilmour, Joe Willock and Trae Coyle coming in for Joao Virginia,  Josh DaSilva, Vlad Dragomir and the injured Marcus McGuane.

Arsenal started well and scored what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 21st minute as Willock’s excellent searching pass found Malen, who dispatched a powerful effort into the back of the net for his third goal in as many matches.

Arsenal’s next game is away to Fulham on Saturday.

Arsenal: Crean; Osei-Tutu, Olowu, Pileas, T. Bola; Gilmour, J. Willock; Fortune, Coyle, Malen; Nketiah.

Subs: Burton (for Fortune, 68), Ballard (for Gilmour, 81). Not used: Barden, Medley, Omole.
