Round-up: Nwakali and Kamara leave Arsenal on loan but Zelalem stays

There were some late loan departures from Arsenal in the summer transfer window, with Kelechi Nwakali joining Dutch side Maastricht, while fellow midfielder Glen Kamara linked up with Colchester United.

Nwakali, who joined Arsenal this summer, heads to Holland as he looks to gain a work permit that would enable him to play competitively in England. He is the second Arsenal player to move to Maastricht on loan this summer, with Stefan O’Connor already at the Dutch club.

Kamara, meanwhile, returns to League Two with Colchester, having spent time with Southend United last season. The Finland youth international made his Arsenal first-team debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the league cup.

Meanwhile, several youngsters have stayed at Arsenal, including Gedion Zelalem, Matt Macey and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. As Football League clubs are no longer able to take players on loan outside the transfer window, it appears that this trio will stay and play in the U23s for now, while they will hope to be involved with the first-team in cup competitions.

  1. We currently have 2 keepers and 8 outfield first teamers training, of which 1 keeper and 3 outfield have yet to play this season. That is from a 33 man squad. 4 are on loan, the rest are either, goalkeepers or injured or on international duty.

  2. Maitland-Niles is currently with Moore in the England U20’s squad which plays Brazil U20’s today behind closed doors. This game will be followed by BT Sports live showing of the second game this Sunday.

  3. U23s best line-up going by when Gabriel is back so Holding can get game time at U23s.

Martinez; Johnson, Bielik, Holding, M Bola; Zelalem, Sheaf; Maitland-Niles, Jeff, Willock; Akpom.

Still leaves Hinds and Mavididi on the bench as well.
