Report- Bielik hugely impressive as Arsenal conquer Viking

Arsenal’s unbeaten pre-season continued tonight as they thrashed Viking 8-0.

Despite Santi Cazorla missing a penalty early on, Arsenal ran out emphatic winners, with Joel Campbell and Alex Iwobi hitting braces, while Cazorla, Theo Walcott and Chuba Akpom were also on the scoresheet, with Viking scoring an own goal to add to their woes.

As far as Arsenal’s youngsters are concerned, the biggest plus point was the performance of Krystian Bielik, who again was hugely impressive at the heart of the defence.

The Pole seems perfectly suited to Arsenal’s style and, although he has several players ahead of him, Bielik is an excellent prospect.

Chris Willock and Gedion Zelalem featured as substitutes but neither player was able to have much of an impact on proceedings.

However, some of the younger squad members on show, such as Akpom, Iwobi and Reine-Adelaide, were hugely impressive and attention will now turn towards the final friendly against Manchester City on Sunday.

  1. Yeah his distribution was excellent, as was his defending tonight. He can break through that first line of defence very accurately and consistently. If his development continues at this pace he’ll be knocking on the first team door or sent out on loan sooner rather than later.

  2. The youngsters really impressed me. Last year I thought Zelalem was not gonna make it but this preseason he has been pretty impressive.

Akpom not so much though… like last year I think he needs to work on his movement and link up play.

Willock needs to focus and play with more urgency. He was very slow to track back any player and to take position. Too much jogging around like he don´t need to work for the ball, the ball has to come to him….. This is first team football and giving 80% on your sprint is not working here. track back, win the ball, put pressure on and distribute the ball faster! thats what he needs to work on. When Gnabry comes back and maitland-niles is given a chance… there will be an huge difference on the same position. Do not forget Nelson too. If he he keeps play like he already made it then others from behind will force that spot on them.

  3. i don’t think we need a defender, with Xhaka/Elneny/Coquelin, there is enough of a midfield shield to let Koscielny/Gabriel/Chambers/Holding/Bielik be our central defenders

    1. Naaaaaaa, we need a more experience CB there please. It’s a long long season and many competitions. Those lads, talented as they are, will not stand against stiffer opposition yet.

  4. Wenger said today that one of Chambers, Holding or Bielik were likely to start v Liverpool. Assuming that means Gabriel is certain to start, so we are looking at a back 4 of Bellerin, Gabriel, one of the 3 lads, Monreal.

  5. BieIik was playing regularly in the Polish top division at age 16, so no doubt he wouldnt have been overmatched vs the Norwegians. Will like to see if he can do this again vs Man City, in which case we really have a find!
