Olympics round-up: Gnabry and Asano score

Two of Arsenal’s representatives in the football tournament at the Olympics got off to a flying start in the first set of group fixtures.

Serge Gnabry emerged off the bench to score a fine goal as Germany drew 2-2 with Mexico, with the winger delivering an impressive overall performance.

New signing Takuma Asano was also on the scoresheet for Japan, with the forward finding the net with an astute back-heel in his side’s 5-4 defeat to Nigeria.

Young goalkeeper Joao Virginia didn’t feature as Portugal beat Argentina 2-0.

  1. Hopefully Serge is picking up a bit of interest from potential loaners. Fit and healthy, Gnabry would be an asset to many PL teams.
