He scored with regularity for the U18s last season, and Edward Nketiah was in prolific form once again today as Arsenal U21s commenced their pre-season preparations with a 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth.
The young Gunners were 2-0 down at the break but Nketiah’s second-half brace earned them a draw on a day when coach Steve Gatting gave opportunities to a wide array of youngsters.
Hugo Keto, who has trained with the first-team this week, started in goal, while Tafari Moore also featured. Tyrell Robinson appeared set to move to West Ham United, but he was in action today, along with Kristopher Da Graca, Vlad Dragomir, Ben Sheaf, Ismael Bennacer, Savvas Mourgos, Aaron Eyoma and Donyell Malen.
There was an even more youthful look to the bench, with Joshua DaSilva, Nathan Tella and Joe Willock all involved in proceedings. Perhaps most significantly, there were run-outs for some of the new first-year scholars, with defender Joseph Olowu featuring, along with Emile Smith-Rowe, who set up the equaliser.
Arsenal’s next friendly is against Boreham Wood next weekend.
