John-Jules debuts as Arsenal U18s are beaten by Middlesbrough

Arsenal U18s suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to their Middlesbrough counterparts in a hastily re-arranged fixture on Tuesday, but there was one positive to take from proceedings, with U15 striker Tyreece John-Jules making his debut at this level.

Arsenal, who were without several players as a consequence of the close proximity of the U21 game with Fulham, took the lead through Yassin Fortune but failed to build upon their advantage and Middlesbrough drew level when Mitchell Curry found the net from the penalty spot after he was felled by Edward Nketiah.

Nketiah had a chance to make amends late on but his effort struck the post, with Middlesbrough going on to score a late winner through Marcus Tavernier.

  1. I understand that the U18’s lost again today, 2-1 to WBA. I wonder if AFC continued with their recent policy of using mainly ‘fringe’/U16 players.
