Yaya Sanogo hit a hat-trick but his heroics couldn’t prevent Charlton Athletic from losing 4-3 to Reading. The forward, who endured a miserable first half of the season with Ajax, scored his first goal in the sixth minute with a neat finish before doubling his tally with a header. The Frenchman completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute and was withdrawn in the closing stages due to injury.

Wojciech Szczesny played the whole game as Roma beat Empoli 3-1.

Jon Toral was introduced in the 64th minute as Birmingham City beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0. Wellington entered the fray for the visitors in the closing stages.

Chuba Akpom was brought on as a substitute in the 78th minute as Hull City drew 0-0 with Sheffield Wednesday. Isaac Hayden wasn’t involved.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles was brought on as a substitute in the 81st minute and was booked for a late challenge as Ipswich Town beat Huddersfield Town 1-0.

Mathieu Debuchy missed out through injury as Bordeaux were beaten 4-1 by Reims.

Injury prevented Gedion Zelalem from featuring as Rangers beat St Mirren 1-0.

Glen Kamara didn’t feature as Southend United lost 3-1 to Port Vale.
