Arsenal goalkeeper Deyan Iliev has had surgery on a serious knee problem in London.
The 20-year-old, who joined the Gunners in 2012, hasn’t played all season and it has now emerged that he has suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee.
Recovery after surgery for such injuries usually takes around three months, meaning Iliev is unlikely to feature in the remainder of the campaign.
The Macedonia U21 international is under contract at Arsenal until June 2018 and could experience his first loan spell away from the club next season once he has returned to full fitness.
Matt Macey has been Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper at U21 level this season, and, in Iliev’s absence, Ryan Huddart and Hugo Keto have both been received call-ups to the second-string squad.
