Jon Toral played the whole game and scored a stunning volley as Birmingham City beat Ipswich Town 3-0. Ainsley Maitland-Niles was an un-used substitute for the visitors.

Wellington was impressive as he played 86 minutes and came close to scoring during Bolton Wanderers’ 3-1 win over MK Dons.

Isaac Hayden played 71 minutes and was booked as Hull City beat Fulham 1-0. Chuba Akpom wasn’t included in the squad.

Carl Jenkinson endured a miserable evening as he conceded a penalty and then suffered an injury that caused him to be substituted with just 13 minutes gone as West Ham United drew 2-2 with Manchester City.

Glen Kamara sealed his loan move to Southend United on Friday, and he was an un-used substitute for the 3-0 victory over Coventry City yesterday.

Emiliano Martinez wasn’t in the squad for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers.

Serge Gnabry wasn’t named in the squad for West Bromwich Albion’s goalless draw with Aston Villa.

Yaya Sanogo wasn’t involved as Ajax beat Vitesse 1-0.

Wojciech Szczesny is expected to start when Roma face Juventus tonight.

Gedion Zelalem will hope to feature when Rangers play Greenock Morton away tomorrow.

  1. Jeorge, why doesn’t the England FA try to convince Jon Total play for England. He has not been selected for the Spain National youth team for a long time. This could be a good opportunity for the England FA to try get Total for England.

    1. This is a real possibility, Jon has always been eligible to play for England as he has an English mother. The only way he would lose that eligibility is playing a full competitive international for Spain, something that is highly unlikely to happen in the short or medium term. If he makes it as a Premier League player, the FA might well come calling.

  2. Regardless of how much higher zelalem or Crowley may be rated toral has to be given a chance over the two if he loan system is to have any credibility. Same with maitland niles. Realise he still hasn’t been given as much game time recently but keeping in mind his age and his performances ought to have certainly bought him some sub appearances.

For he record still have faith in gnabry and feel Wellington is the most talented but for now gnabry needs another loan (opprotunities guaranteed!). Not sure what to make of Wellington.

    1. Imo Silva needs to be in the first team and given a chance. Biggest issue is that all his recent loans have been for some awful teams.

      1. I’ve not been watching him but the Bolton match reports seem positive. Seems he got a standing ovation for the game against MK Dons.

I think he could do a Coquelin/Campbell next season if he gets a chance in the first team. I hope that opportunity comes without the squad facing another injury crisis.

  3. Wellington Silva has amazing dribbling ability, probably the best at our club. I hope he gets a chance in preseason and works on his finishing.
