Alex Iwobi marked his first competitive start at Emirates Stadium with an impressive display as Arsenal secured their place in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory over Sunderland today.
The Gunners fell behind to a strike from Jeremain Lens, but levelled through Joel Campbell before second half goals from Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud secured the win.
Iwobi, who was making his sixth appearance for the first-team, started in central midfield and kept possession well, as he often looked to play the ball safely.
The Nigeria international was involved in the build-up to Arsenal’s first goal and received a positive reception when he was substituted in the 67th minute.
If Alexis Sanchez is still unavailable through injury Iwobi may well stay with the squad for Wednesday’s Premier League game away to Liverpool.
Fellow youngster Jeff Reine-Adelaide was introduced for his competitive debut late on, whilst Matt Macey and Chris Willock were un-used substitutes.
