Two of Arsenal’s brightest prospects combined for England’s only goal as the young Lions commenced their U17 World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw with Guinea.
Chris Willock produced an excellent cross to find Kaylen Hinds, who finished well to open the scoring. Another young Gunner, striker Stephy Mavididi, also started the game.
Willock, stationed on the left flank, was impressive with his movement and trickery, although Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Marcus Edwards was perhaps England’s best player, despite the fact that he missed a penalty in the first-half.
Hinds, meanwhile, buzzed around to great effect, often dropping deep into midfield in an attempt to regain possession.
Mavididi missed one chance but wasn’t heavily involved before being withdrawn late on.
Guinea, who impressed with a spirited team display, equalised in the 77th minute.
England’s next game is against Brazil in midweek, whilst Arsenal’s other participant in this competition, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, could feature when France play New Zealand on Monday.
