The vast majority of Arsenal’s young professionals have been assigned first-team squad numbers for the new campaign.
Gedion Zelalem retains the number 35 shirt, whilst Krystian Bielik moves to number 37. There are also lower numbers for Kristopher Da Graca, Kaylen Hinds, Chiori Johnson, Hugo Keto, Stephy Mavididi, Stefan O’Connor, Tyrell Robinson and Ben Sheaf, who all signed professional terms in the past twelve months.
Wellington has also been assigned a number, 58, despite being linked with a loan move away from the club, whilst Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who will spend the entire campaign at Ipswich Town, is currently without a squad number. Recent recruit Ismael Bennacer is also without a number.
There are some unassigned numbers. Bennacer could take the number 36 shirt soon, whilst number 40 is vacant following George Dobson’s departure to West Ham United.
As far as the first-team is concerned, shirt numbers 9, 29, 30 and 31 are currently vacant.

Players in green are out on loan
i think a couple more vacancies might appear before long…without being disrespectful losing 7 and 20 wouldn’t be terribly sad…i don’t think either of them would mind either
This Wellington situation is bizarre.
Any update, Jeorge?
I know it doesn’t really matter, but no number for maitland-niles is strange, considering all the other pros have numbers. Any thoughts? Also surprised that having had lower numbers last year the 2nd years are left out too?
Incidentally JB, where did you find these listed?
Hes a season long loan. Whats the point of giving a number just for the sake of it? Its not like it says in the contract you need a number in Arsenal to be loved.
I was actually asking Jb.
All the others are season long loans too, just asking what is the difference.
Perhaps you might know then, Jom?
I think it’s because Maitland-Niles went out on loan very early before the squad numbers were even decided.

Yeah I thought that jeorge, but then bielik moving to 37 to make room probably for Bennacer to take 36 must have been a real.late decision. Unless that also had been known for ages.
Still it doesn’t really matter. Let’s just get those spaces filled in the 25 man squad and start getting some wins!!!!
Thank you Jeorge. This answered my earlier queries.
Am I right to observe that this season has the lowest numbers of registered professionals with the Club? Excluding of course those scholars in the 2nd and 1st years.
It wasn’t too long ago that we only had 38 professionals, I will look up what year that was. So no its not the lowest, but is a few lower than recently, especially if you take the season long loanees out, which is all bar crowley, I think?
Could it be no. 37 is reserved for Bennacer (pending administrative clearance) and no. 40 for Donovan (he will turn 17 only next January)?
Oops, no. 36 for Bennacer
It would be nice to see a substantial player wearing the No.9 shirt…
