Loan report – Akpom scores and helps Hull in shoot-out

Arsenal loanee Chuba Akpom continued his excellent start to his temporary stint with Hull City by finding the net again this evening.

Having scored on his league debut at the weekend, Akpom emerged off the bench against Accrington Stanley in the League Cup to open the scoring in extra-time. The England U20 international later had another shot saved.

Accrington, however, managed to claw their way back into proceedings, with the game ending 2-2 after extra time.

A tense penalty shoot-out followed thereafter, but Akpom helped Hull to prevail by converting his spot-kick.

Hull’s other Arsenal loanee Isaac Hayden was an unused substitute.

Also in the League Cup this evening Emiliano Martinez made his debut for Wolverhampton Wanderers just hours after joining the Championship club on a season-long loan.

Martinez played the entirety of the 2-1 win over Newport, with Arsenal academy graduate Benik Afobe on the scoresheet for Wolves.

Dan Crowley, Jon Toral and Ainsley Maitland-Niles weren’t involved for their respective loan sides this evening.

  1. Well done Benik, I still love da guy. Watch-out for Akpon next season. And I heard that NEWPORT goal was Emi’s mistake. Was it true?

    1. Both Hull and Wolves got youtube channels. Highlights are up after each game. We will be able to tell from now on. Not really a mistake from Martinez.
