An Arsenal U17 team comprised of first-year scholars and schoolboys has arrived in Qatar to compete in the Al Kass International Cup.
The tournament, which commences tomorrow, will see the young Gunners compete for the trophy along with sides representing Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal have been drawn in Group A and will face Vissel Kobe and Aspire Qatar as they seek to progress to the knockout stages.
Nine of the current first-years have travelled, including Chris Willock and Kaylen Hinds, but Marc Bola, Ilias Chatzitheodoridis, Aaron Eyoma, George Dobson, Chiori Johnson and Tyrell Robinson have all stayed at home, with several of those players likely to be included in the U21 squad for the game against Newcastle United next Monday. Several schoolboys have also been called upon, including the promising Reiss Nelson.
Kostas Pileas, a 16-year-old defender who has been capped by Cyprus at youth level, is also included. He was part of Arsenal’s Elite Academy in Greece.
Arsenal take on Kobe tomorrow before facing Aspire Qatar on Sunday, with the youngsters seeking to put their disappointing league form to one side.
