Weakened Arsenal U18s lose to West Brom

U18 Premier League

Arsenal 0 West Bromwich Albion 2

An inexperienced Arsenal U18 team suffered a disappointing defeat to West Bromwich Albion today.

Coach Frans de Kat was without several of his regular players, with the likes of Chiori Johnson, Marc Bola and Stephy Mavididi set to be in the U21 squad for the game against Middlesbrough tonight.

After an impressive start to the season, De Kat’s team have struggled for form in recent weeks and haven’t won since late September.

Josh Vickers started in goal as an over-age player, whilst schoolboy Marcus Tabi made his first start at this level. George Dobson returned from injury, with Chris Willock’s brother Joe amongst the substitutes after earning his first call-up.

Da Silva

Subs: House, Robinson, O. Moore, J. Willock.

West Brom took the lead through Andre Wright in the first half and doubled their advantage courtesy of a strike from Tauvon Campbell shortly after the re-start.

  1. I’d be interested to know how many of team from season’s early high point- 5-1 Chelsea- were in today’s team. Very different team would be my guess. I suppose the games to look for to see strongest squads are UYL and, later in season, fa youth cup. Not to say there weren’t good players out there today but clearly a best current 11 at u18 would look different. Hope sense will prevail for upcoming Chelsea fixture as if they go for best team- solanke, boga et al- and we have inexperienced team it’ll likely be a long afternoon.

  2. Vickers – Playing as an overage player
    Centeno – Behind Johnson atm
    Dobson -Back from injury today
    Parker – Schoolboy
    Chatzitheodoridis – Adapting still
    Mourgos – Adapting still
Smith – Playing for a pro deal
    Tabi – School boy
Donovan – One of the U18s better players
    Eyoma – back from injury
    Da Silva – School boy

    Robinson – back from injury

    O. Moore & J. Willock. school boys
